Since childhood I have been interested and curious about existentialism, what happiness is, and how philosophy in general collides on different socio-cultural scenarios through the medium of observation. The quest for those answers has been the holy grail of what the meaning-of-life is to me: by understanding better those collisions, I understand better the reasons of the human drama, and by understanding better the human drama I can conceptualize and depict those collisions better. Bringing this to Fine Art, and using painting as a medium, I try to trigger this awakening feeling in the observer. While pursuing my BA in Fine Arts, the help of my tutors, and research itself, brought me to a few answers that have been integrating well with my art.

Observing a world that uses the era of information to exchange ‘selfies’, cries with poverty and starvation, grows in consumerism and waste on wars, eats transgenic food, and collapses in the Globalization of Crisis, then quests to fundaments and approaches to life come to my analysis. Transparency & Cynicism, Dynamic & Static Identities, are philosophical approaches that I convey in my art that explain many of the reasons of the human drama, colliding with those consequences of Capitalism as a polarized system where richness depends on poverty to sustain itself.

​Born in the Italian area of Sao Paulo city, Mooca, I could grow up observing the contrast of the remaining Italian culture from last centuries preserved there, and the mainstream Brazilian culture. Yet, I lived in London for 12 years, since 2003, experiencing another cultural shock, indeed. Those diverse socio-cultural exposures enriched me with great knowledge in the human experience and brought me some maturity.

I am an artist that confront philosophy with socio-politics. My work is retrieved through paintings sourced from my own photography. For example, immersing a model, family member or friends in a relaxing environment, capturing that very moment that they forget about the camera, and are in deep harmony with themselves, may suggest Transparency and dynamism of their inner selves. Alternating those with social figure scape scenarios, the Static Identity and Cynicism is portrayed in a distance as if from a CCTV camera, suggesting a feeling of exclusion of the scene to the observer. Such distance and the non-belonging feeling would make the observer wonder about his/her own identity, for when we do not belong we hardly form an identity.

I use old masters’ techniques. From the realistic structure of the images, till the creation of many layers resulting in light deflection. Change of tonalities while walking in the room may be perceived by the observer, making my art works a live experience.
I have sustained a painting practise between Sao Paulo and London. This International perspective has helped me to shape my work and contributes greatly in university seminars, exhibitions, critical discourse and as an art instructor. It has helped me to articulate the language that I develop with the expertise, demand and critical precision of the Fine Arts.
